Nearly 25,000 Left Without Power in Queensland and Victoria Following Powerful Weather Systems
Around 25,000 residences in south-east Queensland were left experiencing outages on the start of the week after intense storm systems passed over the region, bringing wind gusts reaching over 100 km/h.
Large Hailstones and Widespread Damage
Homeowners observed large ice chunks as large as 7cm in some areas. Weather authorities confirmed that different parts across Queensland had been impacted by large hailstones.

Emergency crews were working to restore energy supply throughout the affected regions, with nearly 70 crews activated to manage the numerous electricity disruptions.
Southern State's Weather Woes
At the same time, approximately one thousand households in Victoria also experienced power outages after the metropolitan area recorded its wettest day in over 500 days.
State Emergency Services received nearly 600 emergency reports across the state, mainly for structural issues but also for fallen timber and flooding.

At the height on the previous day, in excess of 28k energy customers in Victoria were experiencing outages.
Weather Forecast
Damp conditions were forecast to persist along much of Queensland's east this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the coast.
The following day was predicted as the heaviest precipitation period, with continued severe weather risk predicted across multiple regions of both areas.

Health officials alerted that there was an higher risk of weather-related respiratory issues across the countryside regions, especially given the current weather patterns.
This alert comes after historical occurrences where analogous circumstances led to major medical consequences in the area.
